Can anyone advise if the heating controls in the centre console of a 306 Mk 2 are supposed to be backlit/illuminated when the lights are on? I only have the aircon and re-circulation buttons underneath the heater controls light up at the moment. Could I have a duff bulb(s) needing replacement, I wonder? Thanks.

(You have put this in the wrong slot, should be 06 series). There are a number of tiny bulbs inside the unit, could be a few not working. This is one of those tricky awkward jobs that can take a first timer an hour or so just to change a bulb. The best way is to follow step by step instructions from a manual. The consul has to be dismantled, the control unit removed and opened up and replace the bulb/holders.Its fiddly, plastic, awkward etc so patients and care is needed or parts of the consul will brake.

You will need some patience and a delicate hand but I don't think it is too much of a big job, just be careful not to snap any clips etc when removing the facias.
I changed a duff bulb in the clock in about 10 minutes before.
