Re: 607 3.0 V6 Ignition Coil « Result #1 Today at 12:03pm »
Alas, it's all too common I'm afraid. I don't know if the same unit in other models suffers thus, or if it's something peculiar to the ignition system on the 6.
607 3.0 V6 Ignition Coil « Result #2 Today at 11:04am »
My 607 3.0 (2000 model), SE regularly burns ignition coils on various cyliners. The dealer tends to just replace the coil but it's an expensive problem and a major nuisance on a car that's otherwise very reliable as a top of the range model.
Having sorted my motor problems with your help ,I have another problem. The original radio/cassette unit had quite bad interference problems.Since I was going to replace it with a radio/ cd unit I didn't bother about it. I've now fitted a panasonic unit and still have problems when the motor is running. Any thoughts as to cause (s) ignition system or alternator or both ?? Any ideas appreciated. Thanks. Have replaced aerial with manual one and checked earth continuity etc.
the earlier cars are quite good at refusing the rust bug but the later ones circa 1990- 92, seam to atract it like wildflower. if your thinking these years then the places are the bottom of the rear quarters behind the rear doors which are normally full of filler, the bottom of the b posts inside the front doors. the door bottoms on the inside and the door fronts next to the hinges are really good rot places to. also make sure you lift up the rear seats as they love to rot around the top of the fuel tanks, this can be a really exspensive job to put right. the inner sills at the back next to the subframe mounts can go crusty to. other then that just make sure its been serviced well with no smoke on start up rattles etc. front suspension can rattle if even slightly worn, so check that aswell, if the seats rock then its a new seat frame and there dear, second hand ones are the same rocky seats so dont just think you can get away with that one!!
i would echo what oldpug sayes, go for one that has a service history and that has been looked after, after all if it looks shabby, the odds are that its been neglected mechanically also read up as much as you can about the likily problem areas with GTI;s and go for the best you can afford in your price range , it wont necessary be the newest, after all an older car ,that has been looked after is a better bet than a newer car that has been thrashed and driven into the ground , good luck ,
Re: cross referencing driveshafts « Result #8 Yesterday at 12:21pm »
thanks again, i managed to remove the end tin and do the boots ok, i did look at the costs of driveshafts, how come they vary so much? but as it happened my one was ok, with vertually no ware on the bearings, i got it just in time i think made a bit of a mess around the hub though, nice job cleaning that lot up but its done now, just the front pipe to mend (several pin holes ) ands its MOT ready 3 months early
Thanks everyone. Exhaust valve guides and seals replaced along with timing belt kit and water pump. Head also faced. Goes like a new one now, can't see oil on dipstick, its so clean ! On my favorite 150 km stretch of windy hilly road probably fastest trip ever! Cheers.
