Further to my previous post, vin number on my car is SDB15BD2208849729. Does this help to identify engine size please.Have entered vin on other sites with no result. Thanks from a dumb Kiwi.

No Peugeot dealer around you could go to? You can always try to register an account on the Peugeot Service Box website and see if your 405 is listed (but doubt it as I think to remember it was for post-92 or post-95 vehicles).

Thanks very much Frank ,no spacer so it looks as if I've got a 1600, despite registration papers saying 1900!!

Are you sure it is the original engine? Your papers should give the engine serial number so you can check. If a 1600 has been fitted and your papers still say 1900 you are being ripped off whenever you give the details to your insurance company. 1900 will come up on their computer, so you need to get the papers updated.

Careful with insurance, I've been stung either way. My original that shows up on their computers is turbo but the new engine hasn't, so I am paying for a turbo when I don't have one. When I informed them of this, they INCREASED my premium saying it was now "modified". I pointed out that it now has two thirds of its original bhp but they wouldn't have it. In the end I said I'd continue paying the same premium but not a penny more and they finally accepted.

I've tried searching vin decode sites with no luck, same with engine number. vin is sdb15bd2208849729 eng is cw67058373. All I can come up with. it's English assembled and shipped to New Zealand as a new car. Don't think its been molested, its obviusly been well looked after with one owner till earlier this year. Our registration papers in New Zealand list vin and engine numbers, these match the numbers on the car and the original papers from the dealer that were with the car, just frustrating trying to determine engine size!!Thanks again for your help.
