Just MOT'd the 504 today, its not due for a couple of months but the prospect of having to do prep work if necessary in Jan. with the bad weather looming concluded the decision.
Whats all the fuss over this new MOT on computer? I follow the routine I always do, spend a few hours checking everything before hand, and every few months waxoyling the body, and follow the correct service pattern including those bits like check the wheels! Never failed yet. Which goes to show those making a stink about failures and having to retest should know better than to take a car for testing with defects. Sour grapes perhaps, but I'd like to be sure my motor is in top order so I'd rather it was failed for genuine safety reasons if that was the case.
Thoughts?

Well the classic car mags were full of grumbles about when cars fail an MOT, you are supposed to rebook another test and pay the full fee again. This has technically always been the case, and the free retests etc were at the garages expense, not Vosa. Of course what happened new test comes in and the computer doesnt allow the retest of just the bit that failed. The software sticks to the rules laid down, and now that all the readings like brakes etc are typed in to the system, you cant fiddle it! Also it knows how long the test took. It is good because it stops those rouges who only do just the minimum to scrap a pass result, at least this way more attention should be applied to making sure the whole car is maintained, not just - lets see what it fails on........
Vosa have relaxed a few bits already, if its a quick fix, e.g. cracked number plate, blown bulb, wiper blade etc that can be changed at the garage without the car leaving it can be done at the same time without failure.
At least now used cars, "with a new MOT", should hopefully be a tad more worked on before sale.
