Just wondering if you could help me with a problem on my 206 (1.4L Petrol) 51 plate. I lost my speedometer the other week, it just stays on zero and won’t move from there and when you put your foot on the clutch to stop the car the engine cuts out. You can start the engine no problem again after this but there is still no response from the speedo.
I took it into a Peugeot dealers and they checked the EMU and it was coming up with a sensor fault, they replaced the dif sensor (is this the speed sensor?) and the speedo came back on for a bit but then went back to zero. They checked the EMU again and the sensor fault had gone from the computer. The nice people charged me £110 for this service which has solved nothing. The engine still cuts out when the car is stopping and you put your foot on the clutch. The dealer has suggested that I get the clutch replaced (which I am getting done now) but I don’t see how this is going to fix the speedo problem. Also, do you think the clutch could be causing the car to cut out? as the guy at my garage says he is not convinced that is going to solve the issues.
Sorry my knowledge of cars is limited and I am just trying to pick things up as I go along. The dealers also mentioned the fly wheel sensor, which is apparently on the clutch and suggested this should be replaced when fitting the clutch.
If anyone has any ideas at all or has had similar problems I would be really grateful for any advice as the dealers don’t seem to have a clue.
Thanks
Adam

Check on the top of the gearbox. There should be two (I think!) earth wires bolted into the gearbox casing with a 13mm bolt. I've seen them snap before and cause similar problems. Without looking at it though it's a hard one to diagnose. Hope the Emu gets well soon (It's called an ECU, but I think I prefer it called an Emu!)

I knew it had an E and a U in it!!
Just to update I took it in to get the clutch renewed and they also cleaned my idle control valve, the car hasn't cut out since.
The speedo still doesn't work though (stays on zero) and the airbag light flashes up after you have been driving for 10 mins. The light stays on and bleeps.
Could it have been the clutch that was making the car cut out do you think?

Clutches don`t make a car stall?why change it?what was wronge with it?You paid the dealer £110 to fix a stalling fault and the fault is still there!! your dealer is a right "EMU" ask for your money back!!

They said the bearing on the clutch where gone and it was only a matter of time before the clutch went completly. Since they have changed the clutch the car hasn't cut out, unless this is due to them cleaning the idle valve. The speedo still doesn't work and the airbag light is on constantly so I am at a bit of a loss as the dealers don't seem to have a clue!

You should still have a go at them. They have fitted a speed sensor and the speedo does not work!!removed the gearbox[disconnected the speed sensor] The stories I hear about Dealers??and they go on about independants lack of training, genuine parts and all the other bullnuts makes me mad!!

lol, the thing with a dealer is the fact that the techs are on a bonus, the longer the job takes the less they earn, so thats why they dont have a clue cause they could earn extra cash by fobbing some off to do other jobs.

Engine cutting out when clutch depressed? Brings back memories of my old Ford Escort MKII back in the 70s changed the pressure plate, sorted.

I am experiencing this exact same problem at this stage with my 206 1.4.
My speedo is dropping to zero intermittently and if it stays off for longer than about a minute the airbag light comes on until I restart the car. If the speedo is off there is a good chance on pressing the clutch (having the revs come down to where it should idle) the car cuts out.
Was there any solution for this?
