205 problems

Hey iv had my 205 gti 1.6 for about 3 weeks now n its gone beautifully.

But yesterday i went out, to the shops (3 mile drive) n by the end of it, the battery was dieing. It started fine went i left home but i noticed the cd played cutting out abit and the central locking no opening all the doors. What is wrong with it?

Also there is alot of thick oil on the passenger side wheel arc area, cant seem to see where its coming from, are there any typical things that could cause this. thanks

It sounds like you have 2 problems.

1. Does your battery light come on when the car is running? It sounds like your alternator belt could have snapped, or the alternator itself has packed up. Or it could be the cable from the alternator to the battery has broken. Or the battery has gone.

Have you got a use of a metre to test the voltage on the battery?
with the car off you should have 12.5 volts across the battery, with the car running you should see about 14.4 volts.


2. Could the thick oil in the wheel arch be grease? If so it sounds like you have a cv boot split.
