Hi
I have just joined and am seriously thinking of buying a 504 Coupe in France in December. I have lived there for some years in the past so am familiar with the process but can you guys give me your expertise on buying this model, I think the V6 would be the best bet but tell me what I should be wary of.
I have bought many classics in the past but never a Peugeot classic but in the past have owned in there time 205s and 405s.
At the moment I have a 1961 Humber Super Snipe Estate which is great but a change is in the air!
Thanks if you can help.

Welcome to CPUK. The 504V6 Coupe is a lovely car, comfortable, powerful and very well built(when new). The main concern by far is RUST ! 504`s in Europe, particularly the Pininfarina bodied coupe and cabriolet are notorious for it.I would only consider one that has had a bare shell refurbishment,or be prepared to do that yourself.Another thing to consider when refurbishing a coupe is that body panels, trim and fittings are becoming very very scarce.Almost all mechanical stuff is the same as a 504 saloon and fairly easy to come by. Take your time,do lots of research. As with any classic car it all comes down to whats been done to the car your buying, the integrity of the seller, etc etc. Good luck and keep us posted.

Good advice, and I agree 100%. With any Pininfarina car, you need a certified photo-documented professional restoration or expect that you will have to do one. Genuine low km unrusted examples are basically non-existent.

Many thanks and will do. While I lived in South West France for a few years the incidence of rust is much much lower in classics.

As an aside I once owned a Fiat 1200 cabriolet and that was rust free but I sold it due to it having no go!

France or maybe Spain but that car is too low mileage for me to use as I would like to.
Thanks for posting.

Hi, Not sure if this thread is still active or not, but after many years I have reluctantly decided to sell my 1978 504 Coupe V6. Given the rarity of these now, it has to be one of the best examples in Europe. I am the second owner (the first was a UK dealer owner who used it as his daily driver for many years), its always been regularly used and dry stored (so zero rust!) and was used by Peugeot themselves at several Goodwood Festival of Speed events on their heritage stand. Its 100% original and has not required any restoration, and comes with full service bills, handbooks, original import docs as well as documentation from the 504 CC 30th anniversary event "Rencontre Internationale" in Reims, France in 1999, where is was driven and exhibited by the then Secretary of Club Peugeot UK, Phil Clatworthy. With space at a premium, I can no longer justify keeping it, and now its time for someone else to enjoy such a rare, beautiful and enjoyable car. If member danpl is still looking for an example, I am based in Cheshire. Thanks A

Just picking up this old thread and wondering if any contributors could recommend a 504 UK-based guru - I am in the process of acquiring a 504 Cabrio and undoubtedly will need advice and works carried out in the future. Andrew
