Hello all
I have a dilemma, i have the above car that i love very much, however she is going to need a new engine and no doubt other work. My husband wants me to get a new car, but i want to keep this one.
Finding a sympathetic garage that doesn't rip me off or continually tell me i should get a new car is hard to find (im in Milton Keynes). Also i am finding that parts are harder to come by.
As i am going to need to spend way more than the car is worth, does anyone have an opinion on whether it would be sensible to get a new car or spend money on this one??

First question, why does your 306 need a new engine? what has happened. If the engine really is beyond repair a second hand one is the best option,Dean Hunter at www.peugeotparts.co.uk/ will have one. Now then the big issue is cost, I did a quick Google and came up with these guys in Milton Keynes who specialise in Peugeot/Citroen www.signaturemk.co.uk/ They sound very reputable,BUT good things are not cheep. By the time you have bought an engine, got them to "tidyitup" and fitted it,plus various other jobs, I`m thinking well over £1000 ?? Not worth it, I think it may be time to wave good by to your trusty old Peugeot.

thank you for your reply and all the information. The engine hasn't gone yet, she has been so reliable, always starts first time, but at 145000 miles i know that something major is going to go wrong. The rear wiper doesn't work, the drivers electric window doesn't work, along with the interior light and radio, also she needs a new heat exchanger pipe, so i guess all the pipes are going to need replacing too. She is a great car and very solid, but as you have suggested i think it is time to say goodbye i have had her for 15 years and it has only let me down once. i think i will advertise her on the sale section here so at least i know she will go to a good home. thank you very much for taking the time to help me. In that case keep it,don`t dump just because things MAY get expensive, those trusty old Peugeot engines will go on indefinitely provided you change the oil regularly and its never overheated. The electrical faults you have, while irritating, don`t stop the car going so you can live with them.As long as it passes its MOT with out to much cost, even a new exhaust system is not the end of the world cost wise.
We have a 23 year old 306 that has been kicking around various family members since it was new. Its been thrashed, abused, covered best part of 200,000 miles, still has its original engine, gearbox and back axle,it just refuses to die.
