Well, a filty rainy nasty spring morning saw the ZS in convoy with around 25 other Peugeots (mostly 205's but also a 405 Mi16 and somw 306's) heading for Castle Combe, where the rain proceeded to set in big time.
An hour or so's track watching showed us just how slippery the circuit was as cars were sliding all over the place. Great fun, except that I was thinking..."it's my turn soon!"
Driving out onto the circuit was a nightmare of wheelspin and spray as we started our first lap. All sorts of cars were out there, a few Pugs, Honda's, Rover turbo's and assorted hot hatches.
Sadly the track was so wet that it was third and fourth gear only as anything lower meant the wheels just went mad! A complete lack of track driving up to this point meant I was on a steep learning curve. This was also the first time I had been able to really test out the suspension and brakes on the ZS.
Luckily everything seemed to hold together and I started to go a bit faster, until I forgot about a chicane and locked everything up in a mad panic. Still I got round.
A few more slips and slides later and it was all over. The highlight was the driver of a track 205GTi confessing that he had to work really hard to get past me! He then offered to buy the ZS!! Despite her 24 years and the almost complete incompetance of her driver the ZS proved to be just as good as much more modern Peugeots! If only I could drive on a track I'm sure we would be right on hte pace with the best of the 205's.
During the day, several people popped by to say they thought the ZS was the car of the day and several mentioned how good it sounded out on the track. My helmet muffled all the good noises inside!
So, a great day despite the rain. A dry track would probably have allowed hte more powerful cars to go much faster, but then I had very little grip either. A few more mods to go now, a proper roll cage and seatrs plus the removal of all non essential fixtures and fittings, hopefully the track at the French car Show will be dry.
