Hi all. This is my first trip around your forum so a little explanation. I’ve not had a petrol car for some time as I’ve been driving Land Rover diesels mainly.
I have inherited a French Reg 205 11 1995 1.1 petrol which is left hand drive and in excellent condition. I stay parts of the year in France and it will be staying here as a run about. I’ve just put it though it’s MOT equivalent and passed with flying colours other than a couple of advisories.
I’m trying to get to grips with the car as a whole and wondered if some one might help with a few issues. After being laid up garaged for over a year it started first time with a new battery and all was well. I then parked it on a slope for a while on a very hot day and it would not start again until I’d pushed it on to the flat and put another 5 litres of fuel in even though it shows three quarters full. Évaporation in the carb? Fuel pump?. I have identified a few bits in the bonnet that are obvious but one piece alludes me. There’s a cylinder behind the battery on the right the size of a large beer can which has two tubes coming out of the top one of which goes to the lower portion of carb through a small plastic disc affair with electrical connections and the other goes through a small dome shaped plastic gizmo then goes down towards the rear of the car. I’ve found the fuel filter cartridge so it’s not that. There’s a split in the thicker of the pipes so it can’t be carrying fuel or oil. Vacuum system perhaps?
Thanks for any help anyone might have on these issues.

Hi and welcome. I think this is your car?, (double click the image.) The tank is to collect fuel vapour, "degassing tank". From what I can remember its only found on the old carburettor 205 models.
