The back light that illuminates the digital clock on my 309 has gone intermittent and needs to be changed, there are some old signs of denting around the clock's facia, but when I try to insert a small watchmakers screwdriver between the facia and dash, nothing moves. I don't want to damage the display elements by forcing the front off. Does anyone know how to remove this clock in order to gain access to the back light?

Much like the clocks on the 205/405/309, these are prone to dropping off and being a waste of space. In every 205/309/405 that i've known, the clocks have dimmed to the point of useless. In my 205 I managed to get a cover plate from a lower model to cover my clock as to remove it, you need to get to it from behind, even though there is a plate in front of it that pops out. Im not too sure if its clipped or screwed in, but on the 205 you can see the clock is too big to come out from the front. I would imagine the 309 is similar to this.

Thanks for your help, I should really get around to obtaining a Haynes manual for this car, especially now that I need to know how the dash dismantles.

I really wouldnt bother with a Haynes unless you plan on doing nothing yourself and giving the car to a 'specialist' Best thing is to have a play. Its all fairly straighforward on the 205/405 so i'd imagine the 309 was just the same. What spec 309 have you got? My mate has a 3dr Goodwood with an Mi engine. Very nice car, shame it doesnt go anywhere!

Hi
Dont mention Haynes books & the 405 series 2 clock, That stupid Haynes book tells you to take have the dash apart & the centre consoul to do the 2 clock bulbs, Undoing 4 screws is all thats needed.
If anyone wants the quick way of doing the series 2 405 clock bulbs just ask.
