Hi I have year 2000 406 but a/c does not run. switch and indicator seem normal, but no 12v present on compressor clutch. Ihave traced wiring back to bulkhead area where it disappears. is t ???here a relay hidden somewhere?, is there a fuse somewhere?, any pointers would be appreciated.

Hi
Has it got any gas in it?
If the gas pressure fall below a set level the safety switch cuts in & the aircon WONT run.
Behind the passenger side headlight is a big black dryer bottle with a brown plug on the top, This brown plug is connected to the gas pressure safety switch. Short pins 1 & 2 out in the brown connector plug & with the ignition switched on but the engine NOT running try the aircon switch now.
Do the cooling fans now roar into life? If yes then its aircon regas time.
DO NOT bypass the safety switch with the engine running, You WILL ruin the air con compressor if you do!

Hi again, I think I’m making progress here, there is no dryer bottle behind the left headlight, but I think you were describing the pressostat switch. I’ve now located this on the r/h side of condenser. Although my engine is the EW type, the a/c layout is the XU type as described in Hayes manual! The normally closed contacts between pin1 and pin4 are o/c, I suppose that means pressure gone. I didn’t s/c pin1 & pin2 to see fan functioning, I think its time to regas as you suggested. T

ive got a 1999, pug 405 2.1TD (not HDI), it has air-con, but when i put my heaters or anythin on even without air con, i get a loud clicking noise from behind my glovebox? any ideas what this could be? does my air-con just need filling up or is it something else. Theres a black plastic cylinder shape behind the glovebox, and theres a black box thing on the side which i can feel the clicking coming from!! i think the only way it doesnt click is if you put recirculate air on
