Hi
have always been interested in the 504Cab
how difficult is it to get parts for mechanics and bodywork? Any specialist dealers
What would be the ideal cab and year?like the idea of injection model. Average condition/good-potential price? LHD/RHD price diffrence
Cheers

The 504 Cabriolet wasn't sold as RHD but a number were converted. Mechanically its the same as a regular 504 2.0L or V6. The fuel injection is Kugelfischer on 2.0L and this system is nearly obsolite and expensive to fix. Bodywise, you can still pick up panels new old stock, and ebay just recently has been a wealth of bits in France. Trim is always going to be the most difficult, on all 504's these days.
Brakes and suspension all fairly standard 504 setup and available on the shelf or order from most motor factors.

A car to consider with care... Go wrong and you'll spend every penny you have on it...
The cab was produced from 69 to 83 in the following versions: 69-70: 1.8l KF mechanical injection, 97bhp 71-74: 2.0l KF mechanical injection, 104 bhp 75-77: V6 carburators, 136bhp (no 4cyl). CCs were the 1st to get V6 PRV engines! 78-83: 2.0l KF mechanical injection, 106 bhp (no V6)
No 4 cyl carburator versions and no V6 injection versions. If you find one, it is not original.
The rarest, most desired and therefore most expensive ones are the V6 versions with less than 1000units produced.
All were manufactured as LHD, but a handful of 1st series (69-74) were converted to RHD by Hodec under Peugeot agreement. Conversions stopped with the introduction of the V6 in Sep 74, after which it appeared to difficult to fit a conversion... Don't expect RHD to attract a premium, in fact you are more likely to find a poor RHD than a good LHD.
The engines are pretty much bullet proof if well maintained, although the KugelFisher mechanical injection for the 4cyl engine gets tricky with age. It costs a fortune to repair or replace (expect £600). Same goes for the electric fuel pump which is scarcely available and can cost in excess of £200 when you find one (not the same as 2.0l carb engine of saloon)...
The V6 carb can be tricky to tune, but it does not need tuning very often. It's a thirsty engine in search of a life with regards to performance but, as a V6, it has a bit of torque... The 144bhp V6 electronic injection engine was slightly better but never fitted to the cabriolet.
Body panels and trim parts are a murder to get and will cost you an arm and a leg, make no mistake (eg: Series 2/3 headlamps will cost you at least 500Euros). All body parts are specific to the Coupé/Cabriolet, there are no common parts with the saloon or estate. Some panels, like the boot lid, are specific to the cab or coupé. Good luck if you ever are in search of wings, sills or windows.
Many engine and mechanical parts are still available. The 504 shared many parts with the 505 (engine, brakes, rear axle) and the PRV V6 engine was used on the 604/Tagora, the Renault 30/25/Alpine and Volvos. It is not a problem to get brake parts, radiators, alternators, shock absorbers, etc. Exhausts for the V6 are nearly unavailable (the Peugeot Museum only had a couple left a few months back), as are V6 clutches or 5sp gearboxes.
There is ONE absolute killer of these cars and it is RUST, specially on the cab; water evacuation was badly designed... Hence the difficulty in finding a good one and you would most likely need to look on the continent to find one.
Because there have become so rare, they have become expensive and you will sometimes need to pay Aston Martin price for the parts. Watch out and keep away from speculators like Kurt Orbie in Belgium.
Expect to pay £9k to £12k for a good one. You will see people asking more (eg: Kurt Orbie, 22k Euros for a restored V6 cab !!!), but you'd be silly! Poor ones vary, depending on the level of decay and are usually best kept for parts. Restoration is best kept for the bravest and wealthiest of us... HardTops would probably be a must for the UK but, again, expensive: over £1k.
John Fox used to be a specialist dealer but I think he has stopped the 504cc business.
I think these cars are stunning and a joy to drive, but be very very careful as far as purchasing is concerned and be prepared to have a thick wallet to keep it on the road (they don't like long rests, specially the rear brakes). TLC + garage an absolute must.

If it is the Aug. 2001 article of Classic Cars, showing the Yellow V6 cab of Peter Vaughan, it is indeed excellent... I have a PDF copy if you want.
I also have a PDF copy of the Sep 98 article of Classic Cars with participation of Gary Charlton and one of his really nice cabs (a 1980 one). Lots of pictures and good information.

I am about fifteen years late to this thread but keen to get any info on 504 Cabrio models as I have recently acquired one. Any info kindly received including any ideas on who might still be mechanically conversant with the v6 models. Thank you. Andrew

High and welcome, even if your 15 years late. Its a shame because in those days I had my own Peugeot specialist workshop. I am now well into retirement. The best guy in the UK is Dean Hunter www.peugeotparts.co.uk/ he can supply new and used 504 parts and has a lifetime of experience with classic Peugeot's. Dean has supplied me with many parts for my old Peugeot`s. As you probably already know 504 Cabriolet body parts and trim are very very rare, almost impossible. How ever almost all the mechanical parts are the same as 504 saloons and the V6 engine can be found in 604`s. Another very good place for old Peugeot parts is www.serie04.com/gb/504-504 I`ve used them a number of times, good service. Looking forward to seeing some images?
