hi I'm new here promised to finish our 304s cabrio for my wife but it could do with rear arches-I know they're like hen's teeth but perhaps somebody can let me know if any alternatives can be used? The rest of the bodywork is nearly finished,I managed to get a pair of outer sills & replaced front 'pans with mini ones which worked fine. I restore car bodywork for a living so if I can help anyone out give me a shout! Also is it possible to change engine/box for something else?Ours was out of the car when bought as an abandoned project so I don't know if it's any good Otherwise has anyone got a 304s lump / box which is good & may want to sell?

Hi Welcome to the CPUK forum, I'm sure there will be somebody within the club register that can help (if your a memeber!!!! only £25). As far as I recall, but don't quote me the 304 engine is the same as the mk1 305. The gearbox being integral with the engine, the engine is the weak point with quite a few having head gasket overheating issues? I have seen ebay listings saying the car for sale has the larger engine from the estate.... so maybe another path? The 304 was made until 1980 but its just finding them. Recently a CPUK member restored a mk1 305 with I think the same engine, including an engine rebuild. Dean Hunter was able to supply the parts for a rebuild from stock.(01977 677887 http://www.peugeotparts.co.uk) he may have your panels too.
Ebay is a good place, do a search Peugeot 304, making sure its an international search. There are various bits on new panels on there at about 15 euro at the moment, looks like seals and so on.

I'll just second 504GLD.
There are quite a few 304s Cabs and Coupés in the club so if you own one the £25 joining fee would be money well spent which you would probably save on in discount on your first order from Dean 9peugeotparts.co.uk) as I imagine cab panels are not cheap!!
contact Alastair Inglis at membership@clubpeugeotuk.org for details

re: the engine, any ex-305 1.3l engine will do. They were fitted to some mk1 models as well as some mk2 (the base model or some estates).
Note that the 1.5l engine of the 305 will also fit in the engine bay. It is of similar concept as its 1.3l predecessor. I did the swap in my 1985 mk2 305 when the clutch died (about 120k miles) and I was offered a 2nd-hand 1.5l engine for the price of a brand new clutch...
