my 309 has just failed mot on (near side front anti-roll linkage) has excessive play in a ball joint. I was shown this linkage, it goes between the inner wing (top of spring) running downwards and is bolted to an arm beneath the streering arm. I was told by mechanic that failed the car, that this part can be obtained from many car spares shops as a copy part, my local shop has no idea what he means, does anyone know where i can get this part without going to a peugeot dealer? and is this a hard job to DIY. Has anyone got a haynes manual for a 91. 309?

Haynes manuals, if you don't want to buy one, can be loaned from most public libraries. I can only think he means the bushes themselves, which are only going to be a couple of quid each from Pug.

This is an easy job to do on the 205 so is more than likely just as simple on the 309. It bolts onto the strut body and then theres a nut at the bottom. I've been told if these fail then they really need to be replaced as if the rubber goes, its not a fail, but if the actual knuckle fails, then this could effect you handling. I would go to pug for this because when it comes to suspension, do you really want a pattern part? And sometimes pug dealers can surprise you with prices.
Make sure you get the one for the 309 as well, as the ARB has a bigger diameter than the 205, so at a guess the linkage will be the same.
Over on 205gtidrivers.com and psooc.com, there are plenty of people who have quite a lot of spare part stock so if you get stuck, someone will easily be able to sort you out.
Last thing, dont bother with a Haynes. The new style of Haynes manuals are fairly useless!

I have since become informed, that the piece I require is the anti-roll bar drop linkage, it comes as a total replacement and not just bushes, from pug it's an unearthly £97+VAT. and from GSF car parts it's £16.50+VAT.

Just watch the quality, theres a good reason why the pug part is so much more expensive!
