hi people, i'm new on here and was jus wondering if you coulld help. My mum has an x reg 406hdi 110. For the last few months the abs fault keeps on coming up. It also says low brake fluid sometimes. Over the last few days it has progressed into saying brake failure! Its bloody annoying and has been to the local garage where they replaced an abs unit of somekind somewhere and cured it for a bit but now it has come back with a vengeance. Please help!!!!

Not sure about your abs fault but the low brake fluid showing on screen even when level is ok is down to a faulty handbrake light switch! sounds odd but its a common fault

I've had the same issue intermittently on my X-reg Coupé V6. The local dealer has replaced 2 or 3 ABS sensors but the problem keeps re-appearing and I never get my money back!!!
I get either "ABS fault" or "low brake fluid". I have noticed that these mostly appear when I pull the hand brake. I notified the dealer who told me they replaced a handbrake switch, which of course failed to fix the problem. I've given up any hope of a fix...
I guess this is another gremlin in the rather bugged multiplexing system that Peugeot deployed in their 406 which only: a) irritates owners b) generates revenue to dealers
