ive got a 1999, pug 405 2.1TD (not HDI). From cold, it seems to start very heavily. It starts quickly and reliably every morning but runs heavy for a few seconds! i got told my timing belt may have stretched to cause the diesel pump timing to miss. Worrying about timing belt possibly going to snap i got it changed, and its still the same! could the timing be out a tooth or something? or could the diesel pump timin still be out and if so can you adjust this without re-doing timing belt? give car service since then thinkin maybe the oil was old and worn and was running straight out the lifters, so sounded heavy until oil was flowing again?? still the same though. Its a high miler with just over 200,000 miles, which doesnt help but has anyone got any ideas???

I would think an innefective spray pattern from the injectors? have they ever been overhalled or cleaned? Lucas UK will do these for about £25+vat per injector. You may well see a change, less smoke and better economy. New injectors do sometimes make the engine a little louder until bedded in though.
