Hi wondering if you can help? My Uncle has a 405 Estate (L Reg) Petrol. The engines knackered, he wants to fit the engine from a 205 Diesel (Body Rotten). Does anyone know how to? Website, manual,? What parts will he need for the conversion? Any info please

There are going to be a number of considerations.
The 205 diesel is 1769cc and I'm guessing it is not the turbo model? The 405 has never used this engine in non-turbo form. By the time the 1994 L reg 405s were being sold there was a choice of 1905cc turbo or non turbo diesel.
The 1769 and 1905 are the same XUD. You could fit the smaller 1769 engine but you may have to source a matching gearbox as the final drive ratios will be different I'd guess. You will also have to make provisions for a diesel radiator, diesel electrical system, diesel fuel system (including a fuel return pipe to the fuel tank), you may also find the front suspension struts will not be man enough for the extra weight of the diesel unit. Finallly you will need to find a sympathetic insurance company who will insure your modified car. I would be thinking of sourcing a used petrol engine from another 405 or Citroen BX.
