It does help actually. Thanks mate.
When I find a dealership I trust I'm going to keep returning there (postings and detachments to war zones permitting).
Fancy selling me a 306?

I phoned Peugeot and they are going to do the work. I'm going to check it with a fine-toothed comb when I pick it up.

Glad to hear you're getting somewhere! hope it goes well. I Didn't mean to get on my soap box before but you wouldn't believe how much of this sort of thing we hear about.

Hey dud, you get my sympathy. Peugeot is walking on a thin line with its cheap electronics... An absolute crap. The sad thing is that it has been going on for some years now, but they have not bothered to do anything about it, despite slagging from the press (not limited to the UK).
Personally speaking, my 406 Coupé V6 is the worst car I have ever owned in terms of reliability. I'm at the garage at least twice a year for repairs. I get absolutely no support from my Peugeot dealer (and yes I will name them: Glenvarigill Aberdeen) or Peugeot. It's a total disgrace, but they don't give a d**n.
It's sad to say, but I had hardly any trouble with my 1977 304, my 1985 305 and no problem with my 1980 504Coupé.

It must be something to do with how the franchises are set-up. From my experience Vauxhall & Fiat are absolutely abysmal, Merc dealers aren't much better (they shaft you more politely!)but Volkswagen dealers will almost bend over backwards to help you (even contacting Volkswagen to get my Mrs a free replacement exhaust 6 months after the warranty expires - the car was 3.5 years old). The downside is you have to drive a Volkswagen. YUCH!

heh.
Our local VW dealers seem keener to bend ME over backwards. The easier to get at my wallet. New clutch £600 plus VAT please. Paid £350 at another VW shop in the next town. Cam belt £400 plus VAT, paid £200 at local VW specialist.
They did give me some free plastic clips for a broken seat back though. The parts mamager took pity that officially they only sold hte entire seat back at £70 instead of some 10p clips!

Same here. New clutch for my HDi was £540 at the official pug stealer. £333 from an independant clutch specialist and he fitted a stronger LUK item. What gives?
