Hi
Any clues on this one... Coming up to a junction the car lost all power, but managed to keep running. After finding somewhere a little safer to park the car (round a fast blind bend!). Restarted the car to have the "Engine Antipollution system deffective" message come up, followed by the engine warning light. I'm guessing the loss of power is relates to the computer forcing a change in the program that runs. Anyone had any similar issues?
The car is a 406 2.0L HPi (yep HPi, not HDi).

isn't that the good old FAP filter jobbie? or is that diesels only?

Whats that in English? My first thought was air filter, but figure that it could be something on the exhaust system. At the moment just trying to work out whether I have to go visit Mr Main Dealer , or whether I can sort the issue myself.

It's a filter that sits in the exhaust system and removes particulates from the exhaust. All current Pug diesels have them and failure brings up the warning you describe. They are not cheap! i wondered whether the Hpi system might use them too.

Yeah it might have... It has some complex approach to the exhaust on it, something like a double nitrogen store?!? As for price nothing is cheap on this engine! As every part has to come from the main dealer... More research needed next time I buy a new car!

It'd be the right millage for it, done about 60K... Though I've had the fault before but I don't know whether they did anything with the filters... will check the receipts. Surprised they put a particulate filter on a petrol engine though. But then again not that surprised . Interestingly the warning light has switched off and its stopped telling me its deffective now! Know anyone up north who has a diagnostic cable and the software? At least I'd be able to ID the issue and cut the costs down a bit.

Not the FAP filter... the EGR valve - according to the dealers... I'm presuming its jamming shut, as the idle is normal.

Hi Andy
For mine it cost £125 for the part and £125 to fit, total cost £250. They need to fit it from cold. Though to be honest I am wondering whether they sorted the job as one month on I am having some real issues with it.... see other thread with a similar title!
The cost for the part on my car may be higher than the diesel one as there are a whole lot more diesels around than the HPi petrol engines... I'm starting to think that mine is the only one in the country...!

504GLD - Where do you get your information from... I've been wondering about how many there were in the country. Are these all in 406, or do they include the citreon and 307 models?
AndyH - How likely are the fuel pumps to fail? My Bro and I have been wondering about the fault on mine whether it could be the fuel pump, though I'm rather hoping its more towards the front as this maybe a little cheaper.

I agree with this. the pump would prob either work or not. could be the air flow meter. i was thinking of blocking it off and then it should lose power from go and i could then evaluate wether its the same type of power loss? clutching at straws however i can not afford a dealer at present. andyh

Not sure I can afford a main dealer... Though at this moment in the game not got many options, hoping I might be able to blag a manual for the car out of them.
