Hello all
My plan is to buy myself a Peugeot. I'm afraid it's for all the wrong reasons and my initial ownership will probably be a short-lived experience.
The idea is to buy a 505 estate/family, then drive it around the country for a week, only to sell it at the end. The reasons for this are numerous, but mainly because they're beautiful, elegant, capacious an cheap (to buy).
The intenion is not to abuse the car, but to keep it in saleable condition (Far more fun/stylish/risky than renting).
I'd love to keep it, but I don't need a car and probably couldn't afford to look after it properly.
I hope this idea doesn't offend anyone, and I was wondering where you would recommend I go about looking for such a creature. It would need to be taxed and MOT'd and ideally would survive a gentle jaunt around the country. I won't have time to fix something up before going.
I'm a bit apprehensive about buying cars through Ebay, is there anywhere else I should be looking?

Where in the country are you mate? Theres a guy round here (Wilts) who seems to be well known for his 505 collection. Even the local pug dealer knows him by name!

I'm in London but am happy to travel to find a reasonable example. I don't have a lot to spend but would rather get a good one that will give us all an enjoyable week, than a nearly dead example that will leave us stranded.

The best place for that older Peugeot is the CPUK. That way you can guarentee that the car has been in the hands of an enthusiast.
£20 well spent. Contact membership@clubpeugeotuk.org for details or download a membership form from the website. That way you'll have a place to sell it again when you want to let it go!! You will probably also save the cost of membership by using the clubs insurance scheme while you have your car.
You know it makes sense ;-)

Not a bad idea, especially if I decide to keep it. (What better vehicle for taking friends and bikes away for weekends?)
Is there, in all honesty, a regular flow of 505s passing through CPUK?

Is there, in all honesty, a regular flow of 505s passing through CPUK? Yes there are. In the last issue of the magazine there were two and one in the issue before that (a GTi estate). They crop up quite regularly. A wanted ad would also produce a response I am sure as many of our 505 owners have several each!! They are a well thought of car.

Oh, go on then.
In the meantime, I'd better put a Wanted ad on this site.

Well, I tried e-mailing the address on this site to discuss joining and still haven't heard anything back. I have to say, I'm not exactly keen to post cheques off if this is the case.
Is there any other way of getting in touch with the organisers?

I understand tha tyou have sent an e-mail regarding a potential writing deal to the committee. Last weekend was the annual meeting in Northants so people would have been very busy with this.
I received a copy of your mail from the membership secretary and I would imagine that he is seeking approval on your idea from other committee members including myself.
It certainly sounds lie a good idea.
I am sure Alastair will be in touch in a few days.

I hadn't realised it was the AGM. Thanks also for letting me know what's going on.

Is there any other way of getting in touch with the organisers? Steady on, don't rush into spending a full £20 on anything. From reading your posts, it sounds like you want a taxed and MOT'd car for next to nowt, to join the club for nowt, and you want/expect it NOW! Have a little patience for goodness sake. It's well worth every penny of that precious £20 to be a member. Join and you'll discover why. Mike.

That's fair enough Mike, the problem is that it's a collective budget that I'm being trusted to spend. I guess my concern was that it's hard to judge how large a group is from its website and internet forum. Unanswered emails can imply negative things about clubs but I'm probably just being cynical because of bad experiences with bike clubs in the past.
And yes, I have left all of this far too late and am working to a fairly tight deadline.
I apologise if I've appeared too pushy or have insulted anyone. That certainly isn't my intention.

I....., the membership secretary, is the most helpful guy you'll ever get to deal with, ever. As for buying a 505, You don't always get what you pay for, be careful. I'm talking ebay, not CPUK members. Mike.

I've seen a 305 diesel estate for sale running around bournemouth £350, not quite the same, but a load eater too.
