Apologies if im in the wrong board but ive just joined! I have a 406 2.1 TD on and S plate (1998) can someone tell me if its a mark 1 or 2 please?
It also has a tape radio in it, anyone know if a clarion cd unit installed in the boot would work on a phillips tape unit?
Many thanks!

Hello, and welcome
I "think" your car would be a phase 1 car, but other forum members may know better. S plate is a failrly early 406. Clarion head unit will require a clarion CD changer in the boot. It will probably be cheaper to get a new changer and head ubit together from someone like Kenwood or Sony. FWIW I was well chuffed when I bought a boot changer for my car, but after a few years I think they are a pain in the neck as I end up with the same CD's all the time, or leave the old ones in the car when I put new ones in, which then get scratched etc. Next time I'd go for a single CD head unit, or better yet a car kit for my ipod, cheaper than a changer and loads more music!!

My 1st 406 Coupé was a Jun98 R Reg model, so phase 1 (phase 2 are late 1999/ early 2000 if I remember well). It had the casette player with the 6CD changer in the boot, which I think was Clarion make.
I agree with 104ZS when he says that boot mounted CD changers are a pain. It's a hassle to change CDs and a single CD unit is, in my opinion, much much better. So, if you are considering the expense of a multi-CD changer, you might as well consider a straight swap of your current radio.

My 406HDI was first registered in June 1999 by Hortons of Watford (maindealers) to Michelin Tyres of Stoke-on Trent and is definitely a facelift (Mk2). The mark2s have black grilles and the early HDIs had no badging to that effect like the later cars. It wasnt till I had had it a week that I realised it had a CD changer in the back (its an estate or SW as Peugeot now call them). This is a Clarion unit, you can get the changers off Ebay for about £25,
