Hi
Just about to buy a high milage 406 1.9 diesel estate, but it has a problem when it starts up it sounds rattley (I know diesels do this but a bit more than normal) and the rev counter doesn't move. Switch the car off and re start it and its much quieter and the rev counter works just fine.
Any ideas folks

406's are notoriously noisey, even for diesels so this may be normal. Rev counter sounds like a loose connection somewhere. Don't expect a high milage 406 to be free of electrical glitches! The engine itself though is pretty tough!

Have a 1994 306Xrtd with a similar engine I think. When we bought it the revcounter didnt work, we had a new cluch in it and the revcounter started working again, I can only assume that a connector had been left off somewhere, look for that first I woulc suggest.
