I think the turbo has siezed on my 306, it started making a whining noise above 2000rpm, and about 50 miles later slowly lost all power. The engine still runs & idles fine, no funny noises (the whining has stopped), but has completely lost the boost from 2000rpm onwards that it used to have. Does this sound like a siezed turbo? So Im looking for a replacement, but there seems to be quite a few variants for the 306 TD models, is there any way of telling which one mine has before I take it all to bits to replace it? (its a 1998 model) . I suspect I'll just have to dismantle and look, but I thought it'd be worth asking! Also will any of the 306 TD variants fit, or do they all use different manifolds etc? thanks for any advice in advance.

think the variants were the make, either garratt or kkk which are not interchangable

but on a positive note, a friend of mine had very similar symptoms on her Golf TD and it turned out to be a leaking pipe to the turbo leaking, the noise was air under pressure escaping and the result was no boost. Much cheaper than a new turbo!

Thanks fir the replies. Definately a knackered turbo, I've removed it and it was full of oil and quite a bit of play on the bearings So new turbo time.
