What do we think is the best Peugeot ever? Now I have a 104 ZS, which is my "favourite" Peugeot but I don't think it's the "best".
My vote goes to the 504 which for me was the car that defined the modern era of Peugeots and provided the perfect blend of style, practicality and reliability. Many people still use them as everyday transport and they are still in series production in Africa and Argentina.
So what do others think?

Well, as a 504 owner I would have to say it was the 205, the car that saved Peugeot in the UK. It was still being built in 1999 in Argentina, 16 years after its launch, not bad for a small hatchback. The diesel 205 finished off, and got right what mk1 Golf tried to do, setting the standard which nobody really beat.

The 205 saved Peugeot - full stop. My vote also goes to the 504 (my favourite being the Coupé and Cab which is why I've got one... ) Production stopped in Argentina in 1999, in Kenya in 2001 and would stop this year in Nigeria.

The 205 saved Peugeot - full stop. I can't disagree with that, it's an excellent car, and yes it did get Peugeot out of a very big hole. But if the 205 was the best car they ever built, it doesn't say much for the rest. I'm (thankfully) not yet 50, so didn't take much notice of cars before 1970. I think when I was a kid the guy over the road had a 403, but I'm not sure. But if you take the 205 as a datum, my opinion would be; Pre 205: the 504 Post 205: the 406 coupe But of course Peugeot have been making excellent cars for donkeys years (whatever that means). Doubtless some err, more experienced Peugeot owner will pop up and say, "My 201 was the finest vehicle on the road in it's day ..........

My first sighting of a Peugeot was the 404 becase my next door neighbour (a vet) had several. Always liked the shape and the nice fins at the back. I also thought they were a strong very comfortable car. So when the 504 came out I was even more interested in that. It got some great write ups in the media and I loved the shape as it reminded me of a Jaguar which I thought was the nicest ever saloon car design. The 504 became a prestige car in Ireland anyway and I always dreamed of having one when a school boy. The later Peugeots (except the 604) just did nothing for me at all. They seemed tacky and cheap and I never really thought much of them anymore until I found this little baby on Ebay last year and one of my dreams came true. So its the 504 for me too. ;D

Another vote for the 205, its the first pug that most people associate with Peugeot as it did do wonders for them, though not for the suits that originally used to drive them in the 80's (something to do with alot of them ending up backwards into a field/tree/lorry etc!) Its weight to engine size is phenominal and at the time it did blow all other contenders out of the water, as it still can now. Its a shame they never made the 205Mi as it would have made such a big impression on the market at the time, but I guess they saw what 'just' the 8v could do in the right hands (or the wrong hands). IMO, and only being 23, there was no pug before it and theres no pug worthy after it. All the later models are basic and faceless and are ALWAYS compared to the 205, along with all new 'hot hatches'.
I've currently got 3 and have had at least 1 other! I've also got an Mi but its not my choice of car, it was amazingly cheap and I needed a run about. I would not have any other pug.
