Hello can someone please tell me if its a big problem as the light has been on for about 8 weeks, is it still safe to drive the car?(406 lx td )1996. If it is a big job how much to put it right and has it got to be done by the main dealer...thank you Leanne

Hi Removing water from the fuel filter is fairly easy, you don't say how old the car is but the methord is the simuilar. Buy a new filter element, halfords stock them. drain the filter and open it up take out the old filter and replace, put the top back on, you will need to bleed air out of the system before trying to start the engine, once this is done you should be ok. You say its been like this form 8 weeks, don't use the car unless you have no option, as if the water gets into the injector pump or injectors costly repiars will be needed. Halfrauds own brand filters are fairly poor quality and genuine Delphi or Purflux a much better choice.
