Hello, i`ve just bought my first peugeot. It`s a 1.9 405 saloon 4x4,with height adjustable rear suspension. It`s also got startship mileage, but the engine and body are pretty good for a 405! I was told by the chap i got it from that only 400 were made....is this true? can any one help with info on this car???
many regards, Ben.

Hi,
There were several 4x4 models, 1st introduced in 1989 (I'm talking about Peugeot model years here, running from 1st July till 30th June):
1989 (01Jul88-30Jun89): GR x4 and SR x4 both 1.9l, 110bhp
1990: same + introduction of the Mi16 x4, 1.9l but 160bhp
This carried on until 1992. From 1993 to 1994, the only 4x4 model was the SRi x4, with 2.0l (8v) engine and 123bhp.
The (rare) 4x4 T16 (2.0l turbocharged, 200bhp with overboost to 220bhp) was produced in 1994 & 1995.
All 4x4 models have a hydraulic rear suspension, derived from Citroen's BX.

Welcome aboard Ben. Congratulations on having what looks like a nice reare model. Hopefully the club will have any info you need. They have some very knowledgable members indeed!
Why not stick a pic of your pride and joy up in the readers ride section. I like the sound of the 4x4 turbo, but i guess yours isn't one of them!

Hmm,mines not a turbo 4x4 but just a GLx4 1.9 carb. I only bought it as a run around until i get my other rare beast repaired. Anyway looks like the peugeot bug may have bitten,so the 405 will be brought up to scratch as soon as my e28 m535i is back on the road. Pictures will be posted as soon as i find somewhere simple to host them. Thanks for the info chaps! Ben.

for posting pictures, look in the "General Board" and "Members rides" section. Our administrator has posted instructions to publish photos. Be careful with sizes though...

Well the old girls gone! .....but gone on to a better life! I was taking it up to the local garage to put a few £`s in the tank for what was meant to be the last drive to the scrap yard, when. A mint 405 mi 16 x4 pulled up next to me at the lights and the chap in side waved me over, normally i`d hand signal back and drive off but the mi 16x4 won me over! The chap asked "don`t supose you want to sell your 405 mate?". Now at this point i`m trying not to grin from ear to ear as i had just been prepared to hand over £15 to the scrap yard to take the car in!(yep thats the way it works in east anglia!) .....Anyway i replied yes,why looking for 4wd spares? No was the answer,he had been looking for a lower spec 405 4wd for the last 5 years and not managed to get hold of one. I gave him the grand tour and a drive during the drive he offered £500 for it! I took it!!!!!!!! Dropped the car of at his and cash was exchanged. The man has 4 x mi 16 4x4`s!Gready bloke! He must have formed a plan on the way to his as he showed me the A1 condition trim he intended to put in! So what have i missed here for a chap to offer £500 for a old bottom spec 405 GLx4? ? Is he too much in love with 405 4x4`s/nuts/got to much money,or are they realy worth that much? Well i`m laughing i only paid £100 for it! Now looking for a peugeot with LOTS of bark and bite! Ben.

Chances are he was looking for a transfer box as these often go. There are a few being broken on the www.psooc.com site if he needs any more spares. They are becomeing very rare now as 205's pinch the engines for Mi16 conversions when the ABS / transfer boxes fail

We never got 4x4s here in Australia but there are a couple imported from New Zealand where they were available, but I think only in Mi16 form. I want one.

Bit late too this but the 4x4 can be used in the 205 (bit more rare but does exist). And £500 for a 405 4bie of any variety is good. As for the 405 T16, theres at least 2 I know of in the country. One belongs to Ecosse and the other is a 205 drivers/psooc member.
Note to Henry, the 205 boys dont need an excuse to pinch the Mi. If its there then its just waiting to be moved into the 205 engine bay!
