The biggest change was the interior, dashboard and switch gear. I think automatic also became an option at this time? well it did at some point.

You'd be very lucky indeed to own a 205 GTI Auto.. These were originally destined for Japan (circa 1992-93) but the order was cancelled. They also have Air con and power steering -highly desirable (modern options!)
Gentry models are also fairly scarce, having auto and the same XU9JA engine used in th 1.9 GTI.

The auto / Gentry models did not have the same engine as the 1.9 GTI. They have the low compression XU9J1/AZ cat engine. The late catted GTI's had the XU9J/AZ and the non cat the XU9J/A engines.
The XU9J1/AZ engines were also in the 1.9 CTI and German 1.9 Rallye, but only had 105 bhp, due to a low compression ratio of 8.4;1, different cam and a small valve head.

You might find that there is infact a phase 1.5, i think its when you have the new style interior(door cards etc) but in grey with the old style rear lights as opposed to black door cards and clear indicator lenses Try 205gtidrivers.com ,theres so much info on thier forum its mind boggling
