You wont get anything from it untill the engine has heated up. If this is taking a long time the thermostat probably needs changing.

Is the blower bit working? Or do you only get hot air when you're moving?

Fix that before you start buggering about with the coolant feed and thermostats. I had one where the blower was knacked, thought it was the whole heating system, but then I was going along the motorway one day, and started to blast hot air in - due to the wind at 70mph!

Have you let coolant run low or have a leak? there is a bleed screw on the heater hose between engine and bulkhead (on ours anyway) other thing I havent found a heater blower that doesnt squeek or is jammed yet!!!
hope this helps

The heater on my K Reg GRD broke down two years ago. It started leaking coolant into the drivers footwell and all over the wiring on a trip to Norfolk. After suffering two winters with no heater I've finally plunged in in an effort to sort it out. I basically followed the Haynes manual to remove the steering wheel, instrument cluster, centre consol and main dash panel. But I didn't see any need to remove the steering column lower grommet as they recommend. There seems to be loose multiplugs hanging around off the wiring loom which is a bit confusing at first. You can get the heater matrix out after unbolting the two feed pipes and swinging them clear. The matrix had a crack on the top internal tube at the end where it loops back on itself and another crack someway down the length of the tube inside the very thin finning. I carefully cut the finning away with sissors to expose the inner crack and have covered both cracks with metal cement. So far it seems to be water tight but it remains to be seen if it will stand up to use under pressure!! The blower motor has never worked so I decided to have a go at this too. Peugeot wiring don't use colours but number to identify the wiring ( this is completely nuts!!) I've got voltage to the motor so I removed it and connected it straight to the battery and it jumped into life. Following the wiring I removed the control unit from the bottom of the heater box and it seems badly corroded. I cleaned it up as best I could and retried but still no joy. I think this thing could be the root of my troubles so I'm on the hunt for another one - if anyone has one please let me know!! If this fails to cure it it must be the control panel up on the dash. Hope this is of some help. I'll post an update on the repair results!!
Cliff P.S. I also got the speedo head out and gently bent the trip reset arm with pliers as it was failing to zero the counter.

The heater on my 205 is fixed at last woo hoo ;D ( see earlier post) The repair job I attempted on the matrix didn't work so I got a replacement from a scrap yard ( £20) and the reostat from the scrappy too (£10). I enquried about a Puegeot standard replacement top heater hose ( the one with the bleed nipple on it) and to my horror they wanted £32 for it !! I made do with a standard heater hose 15mm internal dia and some copper pipe to use as connecting pieces and of course some hose clips. All told the heating pipework came to the grand sum of £4!! I've tested it and it's working fine with no tell tale leaks into the footwell. I'm almost looking forward to winter to use it in anger!! Cliff

Hello to all again - my problem is similar except that the heater motor is on full blast and only unplugging it in the passenger footwell stops it!
It's an early dash GRD with sliding heater controls - I've removed the resistor behind the control lever and cleaned it up - no effect. I've removed the reostat from the side of the heater motor and cleaned that up too, still no effect!
Is it a case of replacing one or both?
