I have a question for all your pug techs out there. As you all know im just a woman - so i havent got a clue at what most things are in a car, all i know is the throttle! Right the car: 94, L reg, 1.9 Diesel Turbo 405 estate. The problems: Exsessive blue smoke on start-up and when you have come to a stop at say traffic lights she judders, as if miss-firing. No hefty blue smokes though just the car feeling like it will stall - though its not enough to make it stall. It recently passed a MOT - so dont think its that bad, but still its bugging me as the juddering/misfiring shakes the car. Really like some advice on this please, Thanks all Pug people - you all rock

Sounds like an issue with worn/dribbly injetors.

As Turbolag suggests, could be worn injectors. However, before diving into this expense, check that the cold start device is working. This increases the idle speed until the engine has warmed and then reduces it to normal. If broken it could give similar symptoms. Also, replace the fuel filter and add a dose of heavy duty injector cleaner. Read the instructions on the bottle. Often does the trick.
Excessive smoke on start up could be faulty glow plugs, (or not waiting for the glowplug warning light to go out), however this is usually black smoke. Blue smoke indicates engine oil being burnt and a worn engine.
Regards, Donaldiesel.
p.s. Diesels don't have a throttle. Pressing the pedal just injects more or less fuel. No thottle means the engine always sucks in excess air for combustion - one of the reasons diesels are more fuel efficient.
