Evening all I have just become a proud owner of a 1991 205 CTI that has been converted from petrol to a Diesel 1.9TD engine.. It clearly has drive shaft issues, least of all a CV joint rumbling. The tyres on the front have feathered in an extraordinary way across the entire tyre width on both sides, they both have also worn very badly, almost bald on the outside edges. The car makes some very violent movements when accelerating and decelerating and when hitting surface changes and bumps.. My immediate thought is .. Wrong length drive shafts, i.e TOO short.. is it possible to get different length drive shafts and are the petrol shafts shorter or longer than the diesel ones. The engine fitted is a 1.9TD.. Please advise if you have any knowledge in this area.. Many thanks..

It's nothing to do with the engine or gearbox fitted, It's the hub's, If you still have vented Disc's and Bendix Caliper's then it's std 1.6 GTi shaft's or if the hub's have been changed you need to know what they are, But the 1.6 has the longest shaft's as the front track is wider, The 1.9 GTi and TD's use a heavy duty wheel bearing and narrower track and better shafts

The diesel engine is heavier and diesel cars have stronger springs. Were the diesel springs fitted to your conversion? If not, excessive suspension movement will probably cause the effects you describe. Regards, Donaldiesel
