pug 205 1.8 diesel modifiying
I am looking for help doing some basic modifying. it can not be too special as i am onli 17 but i am looking to work on my 1.8 and make it in to a preformance car one day i am looking for any advise on modifying diesels that is not over the top and make my insurance too much. I am thinking on this first year inproving my handeling liek new bushes adn a strut braces and good quality pads and brake disks.Maybe a induction kit and new shocks in the future.

hello, the 205 diesel of choice is the STDT. I would take a close look at that and then try to figure out what will fit your car. I know people do tune and modify diesels, (google for the 'dieseldoctor' if you haven't already heard of this place) but to be honest, I'd say just get an STDT if it has to be diesel. This has been called 'the diesel 205 GTi'. Apparently there is an intercooler mod that's worth a useful amount of power... Be cautious with 'good quality pads and discs'... many 'performance pads' aren't actually an upgrade until you have them good and hot - ie, useful on track but not sensible on the road. It's surprising what replacing the master cylinder (about 40 quid) and replacing the flexis AND REAR CYLINDERS does to 'upgrade' performance of brakes on an elderly 205. Note that new standard rubber flexis are going to cost about 7 odd quid each, so you may find a metal braided set actually saves you money (shop around). Note that 1.9 GTi's have discs at the back - so half of a set of hoses for one of these will be useless to you. A set of 1.6 GTi hoses should be ok though... Don't be tempted to try to lower the car by playing with the rear torsion bar... it upsets the handling... (even though it is a 'free' mod! )/
