Hi all,
Newbie here.....
I've a '94 1.9TD 405, I need to replace the cambelt tensioner pulley, roller, thingy, thats shaking about and making a squeeking noise when cold and at idle.
Can anyone advise me how to take it off and replace it as I cant see any visible nuts and bolts or fasteners?!
How much do these cost, and where's the best place to get them?
Will I need to take off cambelt to do this, I've been told all I need to do is remove engine mount jack up engine to gain a bit more access and away I go.
Any pictures and info or advice would be most appreciated.
Cheers all,
Shaun

Are we talking about the CAM belt or P.A.S. belt?? as you have to remove all the timing covers to get to the cam belt tensioner and then the bolts are visible?Anyway it will take a page to tell you all about it.One false move when removing cambelt and tensioner on the 1.9Td and you will have bent valves, broken camshaft and cylinder head!!!My advice is get a Haynes manual [and a set of locking pins]and follow it very very carefully,or pay a PUG` TECH` to do the job,£150-£200 new belt and tensioner pulley fitted, job done no worries.

Agreed, don't disturb timing belt without locking flywheel, camshaft and injection pump in timing position. You MUST read and understand the manual before attempting this job yourself. For locking flywheel you need a length of 8mm dia bar, approx 500mm long and bent at 45 degrees approx 60mm from one end. (This gives a long handle to reach behind the starter motor to TDC locking hole). To lock camshaft you need a M8 x 40mm long bolt and to lock injection pump two M8 x 40mm long bolts.

Hi, Thanks for your info much appreciated.
After examining the manual and looking again at the engine, but still not taking any covers off as yet.
I think its the aux belt tensioner, the one that is visible just below the PAS pump. Does this sound right.
I thought this was the cambelt, but the manual seems to show a cambelt and in front of it another belt that drives the PAS pump. Am I correct in saying this.
Im not a total novice, I have replaced a 309 1.9 Diesel cambelt with total success, but this more later version of the engine seems to have extra bits, to put it in a very blonde way ha ha
So Im now thinking its the PAS pump (aux belt) belt tensioner that needs replacing?
What is involved in this and is is easier then the cambelt?
Cheers,
Shaun

A cambelt is the toothed belt inside the covers that drives the camshaft, injection pump and water pump.[the same as the 309 1.9 Diesel]The PAS belt is the one you can see,the tensioner is easy to replace. There are a few types but I expect you will have the one thats held on with three bolts.Ally housing with a spring inside that auto tensions the belt. You will have to insert a square socket bar to release the tension to remove the belt.

And, you will have to remove the offside front wheel and remove the inner sill splash guard before you can access the bottom wheel and tensioner nut.
