Hi,
Unfortunately, my automatic gearbox disintegrated last week.
Does anybody know the procedure for removal of the automatic gearbox (e.g. can it be taken out without the engine)? Any advice re what is involved would be appreciated.
Thanks

You will have to remove the complete front subframe first and then the gearbox, the engine stays put. This is a very complex job and not one for the av` DIY,also don`t think of a second hand box, yours will have to be overhauled by an auto specialist. This is a £1000.00 + job!!!! is it worth it??

Thanks for the response Oldpug. I had been thinking of getting the car up on axle stands and dropping the subframe just enough to clear the gearbox . I'm currently waiting on some quotes for a re-furbed box but confess that I'd toyed with the idea of a second-hand one. However, I take your point about not going down that route. I have another car running at the moment so no great rush to sort the 605. I also have my Alpine GTA clogging up my drive as I have the engine, gearbox and subframe out of it. I reckon I'll sort the Alpine first, then I'll have room to work on the 605. I also take your point about whether it's worth the cost/hassle to fix. If I decide it isn't, I'll have the 605 engine out before I scrap it, as it should do as a spare for the Alpine (with a little work). Pity though, as I really enjoyed the 605 for the 5 months I've had it.
