Right guys, I'm new to the site and have started browsing because I have a problem with a rather lovely 605 diesel auto and I thought the answer may be here. Well, it's not but I think the expertise is so here goes.
Fuel pump overhauled and new solenoid fitted because it was difficult to start - eventually it didn't switch off either (which was very odd) hence the solenoid issue. Now, it's still difficult to start but more annoyingly it cuts out within 3/400 yards. At this point it starts with difficulty and then is normally flawless for the rest of the day.
Any ideas?
Mitch.

sounds like an air leak in the fuel supply, is it only first thing then ok for the rest of the day?

So far as the cutting out goes, yes. I thought the same - loss of pressure overnight etc.
I'll go with that and keep looking. Thanks for your help - it's reassuring - and your time.
Regards
Mitch.

I agree with Frank, its "dragging in air"over night. Most common causes, fuel filter top,[primer pump leaks with age]or the fuel warmer on the back of the cylinder block [if it has one]the metal inserts that the fuel pipe fits too get loose in the ally housing. Also every pipe and union must be good,[she must be quite old.]make sure non of the rubber pipes are "sweating" as this can happen with old fuel pipes.

All the above. Also, check for corroded fuel pipes under the car and leaking flexible hose outlet connection to the tank. These faults can be most annoying as there are so many places that air could potentially be drawn in. Stay cool! Donaldiesel

Just thought I'd let you know the result - it's unusual but you never know, it might be useful to someone else one day. Obviously an air leak, we all agreed on that. I kept thinking about the chain of events - it was getting difficult to start, so I had it seviced, and then it gradually got worse, eventually cutting out after a short distance from a cold start. It could have been connected so I concentrated on the things that could be affected by a service and the obvious target was the fuel filter. The service was done by a brilliant bloke who knows his cars but had never worked on a 605 before. Mind you, not many have. He's never let me down. However, on this occasion he had failed to spot the nut under the fuel filter housing and tried it with a pair of grips. Just enough to distort it, but not enough to make it obvious. That's where the air was getting in. The car's fantastic again - just what an old bloke like me wants. Thanks to everyone that replied; you confirmed my instincts so I kept looking and eventually found the problem. My thanks and best wishes to you all. Mitch.

I have a 90/91 605 SVE 3.0l Auto. It has developed an ABS problem in that the ABS is not functioning, and there is no brake boost at all, which makes braking interesting!! It also has the suspension on sports all the time, which really doesn't bother me, and also no cruise. Sometimes also the power steering hardens up slightly, and when driving, I can see pulses in the dash lights fairly frequently!' To top it all, the aircon leaks at the area of the tx valve, but is it the valve, or do we have to pull the dash out? Otherwise, the car is brilliant. It has just done 90000 miles. Now the tough bit, I am a PCCV member in Australia, and we are led to believe only about 4 dozen 605s were ever sold here, so expertise is limited. Or non existent!!
