Firstly, Hello everyone in Peugeotland and hope your well.
I joined here because I'm after some specic information.
I have long wanted to get myself a 406 coupe, because I like the style. And - goody goody - they are now coming onto my affordability radar.
However, I know precious little about them, and need to educate myself when going to look at some second hand ones. I'll be looking for early ones from 97 to 2000, with up to 100k miles.
Things I need to know:
- (given running expenses), was the 3.0 that much better than the 2.0 ( which I favour at the moment on economy grounds )?
- What were the models available for the coupes and how do they differ.
- What years did they have shape changes?
- what were the service intervals, and how much. When did they require BIG services?
- Are there any known 'issues' with any of the models that I should be aware of ( ie dodgy gearbox / camchains etc )?
- What work should I check has been done ( ie - I understand that the cambelt should be changed around 80k )
- Are they generally easy to service - or should I only look for models serviced by a Peugeot garage?
- Do they suffer unduely from corrosion?
- Which models had the leather seats.?
- Are they expensive to run?
- How in general have owners found them?
Finally, anybody know other sources for info on this model. Links etc.
Thanks in advance for your help
