Ken Broughton & I checked out a very large chicken shed on a farm in Sussex
yesterday containing large quantities of new spare parts for mainly Peugeots
and Renaults, but also Mazda and Volvo, of the 1980's on. The Peugeot parts
had been shipped originally by Peugeot to Poplars Garage at Five Oaks which
has since changed hands and is no longer a Peugeot Dealer. These included 4
to 6 boxes appx 4'x3'x2' mounted on individual pallets containing a mixture
of items still in their original packaging @ £200 per box - no breaking
down. There is no inventory but we saw brake shoes, brake & clutch
cylinders, clutch plates, bearings, door rubbers, rubber gaiters, switches
and more. There are parts manuals for 106, 205, 305, 505 & Talbots, incl
Samba together with
microfiches and a reader. There are also about 50 windscreens and heated
rear screens, but don't know for which makes and models. There are a lot of
unidentified panels together with a new rear quarter panel for a 205. Apart
from car parts there are other collectors items: old fashioned street lights
(@£500), several lawnmowers, an old Humber, Hillman, Commer garage sign with
backlit glass, a new body shell for a Chrysler Alpine, a 60s Hillman Minx
reg no BP13, a Ford Y in bits, a '37/8 Hillman Minx (I have a photo), a 60's
Fiat 500 and some old farm equipment. We saw a 1927 RR 20hp with a new ash
frame and needing finishing he's just sold for £8500.
We guess that the land has been sold for redevelopment as the farmer wants
it cleared in 2 weeks or it's going in the skip. He was in the process of
loading a 4-post car lift and rolling road into a skip. He is a savvy
northerner who has a strong opinion about values! He says it all belongs to
a friend of his in his 80's who used to own 4 garages. It was obvious from
his attitude and some of the things he said that he's had a few 'tyre
kickers' and therefore suggest that a coordinated visit from interested
parties in the Club would pay dividends. He can provide lifting equipment of
sorts ( scaffold poles a front loader on a tractor). There is also a lot of
shelving available.
Would anyone interested please ring me for further info and contact details.
Many of the loose items can only be identified if you recognise them. It is
not well laid out and there is only a mobile spot light connected to a
generator, so torches are a must.
You can reach me on 01604-862369 - be quick!
