Hi chaps, I've got the princely sum of £750 to spend and want a Peugeot diesel. The best I can come up with is a 1996 306 XLD with 92k on the clock for £750 or a 1993 205 XLD with 88k on the clock for £750. Both have FSH and drive well. Which is the best buy? Obviously not having seen or driven either I'm just asking for your opinions "on paper" so to speak. Has one car got a better reliability record? Are parts cheaper etc? Thanks!

Welcome to the forum. The 205 has many fans and is afine car in both petrol and diesel form, however unless you particularly want a 205 the 306 is a far better car. it is more modern in design, larger, more comfortable and better built. I'd go for the 306. The 306 also has better parts availablity as it is a more current car. Both are fairly cheap to repair though.

same hear, 306 is much bettor than 205 not that the 205 is bad.
306 is basically the same as a Citroen ZX but with a slightly curvier body and plusher interior and the Diesel engines are unburstable as long as you look after them (oil change regular and cooling system)
