406 diesels

Hi all, I am planning on buying a 406 Diesel Estate. I req it to be able to pull a box type trailer so need a bit of umpff under bonnet.
Is there any engines that should be avoided.
i had a 1.8 turbo in a 405 and it was splendid, it served well untill it died of old age.

I would be gratefull for any any all advice

406 diesels seem to have a fairly loyal following, if not quite as much as 405's which many many people seemed to love, and despite the supposed move up in quality and the 405's rep as being a bit flimsy, it seems that the older car may just shade the 406 for ultimate high milage use.

Still the 406 diesels do boast more powerful units. Get the 2.0 HDi over the 1.9 DTurbo
