hey everybody nice forum, been browsing here for a bit and thought id sign up seeing as i actually had a question to ask hehe im looking to buy a 306, preferably a d turbo phase 2, and i have between £2000-£2500. thing is, looking at the majority of cars most seem to have somewhere between 80k-120k miles on them, and although i know these engines can do alot of miles im worried that the rest of the car might fall apart around it if i buy one with a fair bit on the clock hehe anyways, im just looking for some advice on them, how many miles is too many miles, what things should i be looking for that might be worn or on their way out with so many miles an such. cheers p.s. sorry if this question has been done to death already

hi there i have a 98 r reg td and apart from a little too much smoke which i am currently trying to sort i think these cars are a sound buy, but if had that sort of money i would have a passat on my drive, however the insurance on them is a little high the best cars i think are the last of the phase two's prior to the HDI engine, i aint a fan of that one compared with older xud ones problems are like all cars mainly niggly things like electrics timing belt always seem to last 72-80k but should have a water pump, if not get the job done again with one could save you a re con head plus labour suspension steering are good with a positive drive and good road handling radiators can leak usually corrosion, so check for leaks and also healthy coloured coolant if its mucky brown walk away milage is not a real issue although head gaskets can leak oil with no loss of performance on the very high millage ones 180k approx if its got gud history looks right and drives well go for it!!! regards Howey
