Can anyone give me any details advice? Apparently I have a problem with my 1991 405 gtdt 1.8 estate brake pressure valve. How does it work? How can I tell which abs type, if any I have? Steps for replacing? Does it have to be a Peugot dealer as per the Haynes manual references?
Thanks in advance Martin

I take it we are talking about the pressure regulator that you will find on the right hand side of the rear axle.It compensates the braking front to rear depending on the weight in the car. What is wrong with it? as they don`t often need changing. As long as you quote the chassis no to a Dealer or the reg` no to EURO or GSF you will get the correct part. Two bolts, four brake pipes and unhook the spring to the suspension arm and its off.Refit and bleed the rear brakes.Sounds easy?its not,the pipes are a sod to get to and on an old 405 will be very tight to undo.Always use a quality brake pipe spanner or you will round them off.If you have to change damaged brake pipes its tank down etc,you will be there for ever. Before you go to all this effort and expence [they must be £100] make sure it really needs changing.

With respect, if you don't know if your car has ABS or not, you would be well advised to leave work on the braking system to the professionals. How will you bleed it correctly and safely if you don't know the type of system? The estate load compensator valve device needs a garage that understands Peugeots to test & set it up properly.
