A polish lorry driver took out the left hand side of my 1994(M) 205 Mardi Gras. The loss adjuster has just offered me £325 for the car. Before the accident the car had 2 small dents one in the front wing and the other in the tailgate. These are scars from going down to the local supermarket. You could only see them when the light was in the wrong position. The car had a very small mark on the driver seat and a slight mark from the cigarette lighter on the dash.. Those are the bad points. I was a Peugeot main dealer mechanic in the 1980’s and have serviced the car myself. since 1993. I have even cured the leak from the sump drain bung! Its got the original Mardi Gras mats, Original wheel trims, original mud flaps(4 off) a Alpine stereo with Kenwood speakers, a Nokia CK-7W car kit and a FM modulator for my Ipod. Other extras are remote locking with 2 plips, and a sunroof. The car is mechanically perfect without a spot of rust. Are Fortis the loss adjusters being fair? What price should I ask for.

First of all remove the stereo, speakers, and all your goodies, they belong to you!!.Then have a go at your insurer for more money, also ask for a cheque and keep the car for salvage.I can not see them getting all worked up for a car of this value.

a 14yr old 205 is not worth a lot of money. I'd do as suggested by oldpug.

You might get them to go up a few quid on their offer (mayber another £50?) but yes in essence your car isn't really worth much despite the condition.
Sadly this is how insurance works!

I have just receive a quote for £700 and I have the option to buy the car back for £70. You have to really have a go at the insurance companies and you will get the correct value for you car. I had to get prices from any web site I could think of and also check the reasons for giving such a low value. They said the car was high mileage as they used the mileage calculation for a petrol model. Diesels generally do more miles so the annual mileage is allowed to be more. 8.5K for small petrol cars 10.1 for small diesel cars.
FYI If your diesel car is a bugger to start as the weather gets colder and it smokes do your valve clearances. Steel valves shrink less than an aluminium head so the clearance goes.
