Hi, I've got a 1993 L-reg 405STDT saloon in Sorrento Green. It's in very good condition, recently had a service, cam belt (inc bearers & tensioners) & water pump, 180k miles, two owners from new, four good tyres, all electrics work apart from temperamental fuel guage, very clean tidy car with all old MOTs. On the downside: Ive recently started work in London so when the Tax & MOT was due at the end of July I did not get them done as I am not using the car. For an MOT it i know it will need N/S/F ball joint replacing and a new backbox as it has rusted away round the weld to the mid pipe. I cant see it failing on anything else. How much do you chaps think its worth? I dont want to scrap it as its a rare model and id rather it sit on my drive or go to an enthusaist who will enjoy it as much as i have in the last ten months.

At 180kmls, it's had a good run, so the car isn't worth a lot. And if you don't intend to fix the ball joint and exhaust, it's worth even less. Couple of hundreds maybe?
Why do you say it's rare?

It has had a good run but it was a company car owned by an executive who works for an oil company so always got regularly serviced. I may fix the ball joint while its off the road but the weather hasnt been on my side of late. I defintiely dont want to sell it for less than scrap value.
Arent STDT's rare then? I hardly ever see them. In fact, I have only seen two other 405s the same spec and colour as mine. One was in a breakers yard and the other in a pub car park.

Sadly I think you are confusing rare with desirable. You are probably right, there won't be THAT many STDT's left on the road, but to the buying public they are all just old bangers, particularly sans MOT.
I have a 104ZS, there are only 3 of these cars left in on the road in the UK and the last one I saw for sale went for £375 on ebay with a full tax and ticket. Rare yes, wanted, not at all. A 405 estate without an MOT is, realistically, scrap value.

In posting a thread on here I was hoping that Id attract some 405 fans. I am one as the STDT is my third. I also own an '87 Opel Manta - which is definitely more of a banger than the Pug! I just looked up the 104 on this site and I can safely say I have never seen one before! The closest car to it ive seen is a Talbot Samba which is based on it. Its good to see rare and unusual cars being cared for as I always find them interesting.

'must have been an important one... in a little Oil Company, lol! Joking apart, so what? It's a 15yr old, 180kmls 405 that needs a few repairs, has no Tax, no MOT, i.e. worth next to nothing. Simple reality. Now, nothing stops you advertising it for a couple of grand...

They are really comfy and despite being a little fragile in the trim dept are reliable cruisers. The TD models are great. Many people prefer them to the 406 in many ways. With a little tlc yours could be reborn as a reliable and frugal daily driver. The 104 and Samba do indeed share the same mechanicals. My 104 is the shortcut coupe version which is a bit shorter than a Samba. And prettier too! Fix the 405. You know you want to.

I had two 405's. One was a 1993 STDT in silver and was a very nice car.
The reason that STDT's are not so common is the fact that Peugeot changed the badging to GTDT and GTX for the UK market after only one and a half years of using the ST and STDT if my memory serves me correctly.
The STDT was top of the range at that time with wood look inserts, nice diagonal stripe velour seats and air con on later models. The value will not be any different because of this and not worth that much now. Keep it and run it into the ground but I think you may be surprised how much longer it can last........
My Silver Estate STDT cost me almost £ 18,000 new in 1993 !
It would be interesting to know if anyone is still running it now, the Reg was K11 BBJ.

Funny you should mention the fact that people like the 405 above the 406 because the chap I bought my car off was given a 406 as a company car upgrade. He kpet the 405 for his wife to use. When it came to upgrading again she didnt want the 406!
Is there a pic of your 104 on this website?
All the trim in my car is present and correct!
I think around the same time as the badge change, didnt they bring out the Executive as the top spec model?
I would love to keep the 405 but its just sitting on my driveway doing nothing and I wont have the money to put it back on the road for about 5 months!
K11BBJ, according to the DVLA website, last saw the road in 2004.

Its a shame it has to go then. Wish you luck with selling it.
By the way, thanks for the info on my old STDT. I guess 11 Years is not too bad but who knows what happened to it...
Ah, the 104 ! Since moving house I have lost a couple of boxes of old pictures with some of the older Peugeot's in the family.
My 104 was a Dark Navy 5 door GL with burnt orange interior. KGH 165T. 1979. I bought it with my summer and part time job savings in 1983 for £ 950.
Its a shame that today's Peugeot's do not have the reliability and simplicity of the earlier models. I still have my fathers old 504 which is such a nice drive compared to todays cars.

Columbo Your 104 last ventured roadwards in 1989 so it's a fair bet that that too is now dead and buried. There are many pictures of my 104 on the main cpuk website. Here's one: it's a bit non standard at the moment.
