Hi, I need to re-chrome/silver my headlamp bowls from my 1973 504 cab. (2 individaul lights per side) Duel Metalising advise they can do this ( www.dual-metallising.co.uk/) but need only the bowls. Can anyone advise if its possible to remove the glass or if they have had similar experience trying to restore headlights. Thanks Richard

Manged to get the glass of the body by soaking in deisel for about 1.5 hrs. Scored the sealent first with a stanley knife.
The deisel made the sealent go soft and managed to easy out.
Just need to send body of for quote.

I assume your dipped beam units are correct for RHD? If so, they must be RARE! The LHD ones are rare enough, but at least they turn up in NOS on eBay occasionally.
For resealing, I find that white silicone by GE (General Electric) does a good job and looks original too, if you do it carefully.

RHD headlamps on a 504cc? I don't think that ever existed...

Those light units were used on a couple of other cars, you never know what Cibié had in their 1960s catalogue......
Anyway, if they are LHD units, it might be cheaper to see if you can find a pair of the dipped units on eBay.
A freind of mine in Victoria BC Canada has two NOS main beam lamps for the 404 C + early 504 C, for sale.......new in box.

Well, these lamps were those of the late 404cc and also used on Renault Alpine. But I think that's it...

not sure how you identify lhd/rhd?
I did contact Veleo who my current units are stamped with (dated 1996) but they no longer supply.
was aware of he Renault alpine association, but not the others.

I used to have a pair of those 504 C buckets and stainless steel rims (brand new, unmarked) but I chucked them out as they were not good for the 404 C. No 504 Cs on this continent at the time.....D'oh!

It's not chrome, it is micron thin aluminium coating.

Sounds daft but sometimes, if you can get the glass off, it's possible to get a re-chroming effect with kitchen foil. Treat yourself to a good quality roll though not a cheapy that tears easily. This worked for us!
