Bought a 1993 205 GTX recently which is 1.4 monopoint injection catalyst. It has real problems starting though -- originally when the engine was hot -- now its from cold too. After about 3 attempts labouring the starter for ages it suddenly jumps into life and runs fine with no misfiring or stuttering... any obvious suggestions please b4 i spend loads at the garage having all manner of things replaced that may not cure it? I don't think there's anything wrong with battery, sparkplugs - - couldnt say if its an ignition, fueling or some sensor problem... cheers

Flywheel sensor is a good bet,but first find someone with an old diag`tool to check if any fault codes are stored.

I think there is.Its the very early type with a green two pin socket in a relay box under the bonnet. As I said you will have to find a very old diag kit.

Hello, thanks for the pointers. The car flew through the MoT yesterday and my mechanic seemed to have cured the starting issue with new dizzy cap, rotor and plugs. Then when driving it today I said the fatal thing "This car's engine is so sweet, it just purrs and is so much quieter than my CTI, I'm loving this car all over again...." and of course an hour ago it conked out dead... no stuttering at all, just dead with all the lights up on the dashboard like someone had just pulled the power plug on it... it started after a bit, drove about 2 minutes then lost all power again and took forever to start, then died again so I've abandoned it until tomorrow. So much for me and my big mouth!
