I have a Peugeot 205 1989 and would like classic car insurance or similar so my son can drive in his own name. Any contacts for this would be greatly appreciated.

I had my 205 GTi with Footman James on a classic policy and they were very good both price and service wise. I have also heard good things about Peter Best.
Only possible problem is that i think they require the driver to be over 25.

A "classic" insurance is no cheap substitute to a regular (expensive) policy for a young driver.
My 504 used to be insured by Footman James on a classic car policy and I too recommend their price and services (fully comp + commuting to work covered for my wife and I with 5000mls/yr max for under £100 if I remember well). However this price & policy was subject to experienced drivers with previous insurance history, existing NCD and other daily vehicles.
Worth a shot though with your son as an additional driver.

My 205 was insured on a classic policy but as my only car - that was less than £250 fully comp parked on the road in lovely stoke on trent on a 6k miles limit.

Small rectification: it was with RH Specialist insurance that I got the cheapest policy: £97 fully comp + commuting to work for wife and I, limited to 5000mls per annum (in 2007 and 2008). With Footman James, it was £175 back in 2002 & 2003.
