Oh yes, I can beat that. Excluding things replaced for reasons of waer and tear (tyres, spark plugs, brake pads, etc), I must have spent the equivalent of Cuba's annual budget in repairs on my 406 Coupé (sensors of all sorts, warped discs, sets of ignition coils, steering column, radiator, exhaust, seat heating and so on).
I won't even mention the multiplexing which is an absolute horror. My impression of recent Peugeot quality is now extremely simple: utter crap. And that does not stop at the manufacturer but extends to the dealer network: during my last visit to the local Peugeot garage for yet another repair on the 406, they managed to de-program both keys and were unable to re-program them. Result: no remote control anymore and the dealer said I had to get it fixed in the UK, they could not do it in France !!! Try and beat that...
When I compare my 2 x 406 Coupé with my previous 304, 305 and current 504, it's night and day. On the 304, the only thing I ever had to replace was the water pump and the car was 13years old with 100,000 miles. In the 8 years I owned my 305, I drove in excess of 120,000 miles and the only things that failed were the clutch (got a 2nd engine for the price of a new clutch), a thermostat and a driveshaft. I've had my 504 for 5 years and I've only had to replace the alternator which was 25years old...
The days of indestructible Peugeot are long gone and stopped with the 505...
It makes one wonder if there is a deliberate effort to make you spent the buy price of a Peugeot in parts and repairs during its running life...

Conversely, other than a handbrake switch, my old '99 D9 406 HDi needed nothing beyond normal service and wear and tear in my 78k mile ownership.
Once the wear has been eliminated from the original posters list, then most of what remains will be related to the cambelt failure, which (on face value) is equally likely to be due to poor maintenance.

Why would you need new anti roll bars?

maybe they dont make peugeots as good as they use to. peugeot must make more in spare parts as they do in the car. My dad has a 407 sw 1 year old and it has already had to go back to the dealership 4 times with problems. on the anti roll bars they had to be replaced because they failed the mot, the ball joint had gone.

on the anti roll bars they had to be replaced because they failed the mot, the ball joint had gone. Surely just replace the joints then. Anti roll bars should be lifetime parts I'd have thought.

2 new timing belts 1 new snapped - one wear and tear, the other coul dhave been end of life on a P reg 306 and was left too long. 2 timming belt tensioners - both done when the belts were I assume. Seems normal enough new head gasket - Not strictly wer and tear but they will go eventually 5 new valves cut and put in new rocker cover - !! How can a cover fail. Gasket yes, cover ?? new heater matrix new radiator new fog lamp new exhaust - wear and tear. P reg 306 would probably be through several exhausts by now. new rear shocks - depending on milage, wear and tear 4 new brake discs - ditto 6 new brake pads - wear and tear fair and square new speedo sensor new fan switch 2 new front anti roll bars ?? Bushes yes, wear and tear again 8 new spark plugs - wear and tear 8 new tyres - ditto Over the lifetime of a P reg 306 it looks like you've actually done pretty well. The only items that you woul dnot expect to fail were the rocker cover (still don't get it), speedo sensor, fan switch, rad and heater matrix and a fog lamp. The valves were probably damaged when the timing belt snapped. This is not to say that Peugeots are all reliable or indeed as tough as they used to be (they aren't. The 406 can be a ral doog at time as 504V6ti knows, as can most of the 06/07 range, yours however seems to have done quite well.
