Hi All,
I have a 1999T Reg Pug 406 HDi 110bhp estate which I have had for many years and I love to pieces.
Two weeks ago as I was accelerating away from a roundabout (not hard)when suddenly the car lost power and smoke started to pour out of the exhaust and from under the bonnet!!!!!! I pulled over to a lay-by. Yikes I thought this looks like a Big problem!!!!!
When I eventually got towed home I tried to start the car again which it didn't like, smoke again poured out of the exhaust and from under the bonnet and the car was running as rough as soot, so I switched it off to investigate!
It was coming from the turbo. I therefore took off the Turbo to check, the Turbo had blown good and proper
So, I have just fitted a replacement, cleaned all the air intake pipes, turbo inter-cooler, egr valve, replaced the oil and oil filter and air filter and at the same time replaced the small water hose at the back of the engine which was dripping coolant and refilled it with antifreeze, Oh yes and replaced the bottom engine mount bush which was cream crackered.
I then Turned over the engine a few times to ensure oil was fed to the Turbo and then eventually started the car.......
Yeah.... away it went, lumpy as hell and kicking loads of smoke out of the exhaust!!!!!
With the car still sounding as though it was only firing on three cylinders I took it for a run round the block to see If things would improve, much to the dismay of other road users who weren't impressed with the smoke screen I was leaving behind me ;D.
After about 20 miles things seem to improve, well less smoke anyway.
But the car is Still running rough, and at start up or whilst idling still kicking out smoke.
Has anyone Any ideas?
Do you think there could be more oil in the exhaust thats needs burning off?
Could the fuel injectors need cleaning?
I am going to fit a new fuel filter and put some injector cleaner in the filter housing tomorrow to see if this will improve anything.
P.S. The EGR valve and waste gate valves seem to be working OK.
