I have just had the most alarming experience in just over 50 years of motoring. Having taken delivery of a 407SW last Wednesday I had become accustomed to the smooth and peaceful progress around the Cotwolds , aided by the excellent auto box. Today, for the first time I floored the accelerator and the surge of power was quite agreeable, now the problem, when I lifted my foot off the pedal, the engine stayed at full power, necessitating a very heavy and extended push on the brakes to slow it down followed by repeated stabbings on the accelerator pedal. After what seemed an eternity the wretched car returned to normal. It was better luck than judgment that nothing was in the way at the time, since stopping would have been very difficult, since if I had just turned off the engine the brake assistance would disappear. Five minutes later I found and empty road and again floored the accelerator, with exactly the same result. Please has anyone else had this problem, for since I have only had the car 5 days I do not wish to dump it, but I do not wish to get behind the wheel again until the local Peugeot dealer has eaxmined it, fitted new parts and road tested it under the same conditions.[/color]

In all honestly i have no ideas what is wrong but its clear as day something very important IS wrong. I suggest, get peugeot to pick her up and take her in. It sounds serious, so just take her in. I own a lil 205, yet drive a 405 estate at the moment, my husbands car, yes they are older cars, but we have had none of this problems.
Id hate for that to happen with me driving and yet my children in the back - it sounds a matter of urgency - so get it sorted right away.
Good luck with that

The Peugeot service manager is picking it up at 08.30 tomorrow. I will not drive it again until it is sorted . It was a very frightening experience.

Problem now solved.
Under the accelerator pedal is a kick down switch to provide peak power when required. It had stuck in the ON position. New pedal fitted and the car now slows down wehn I lift my foot off the pedal, much better that way !
