Hi, Just bought a peugeot 406, 1998, petrol engine, on a cold start in the morning, idling is uneven but later fine when warm, why? How do I also drain coolant and refill afresh, how and in what measure? Hi, It may be in need to a full service i.e. Spark plugs, oil & filter etc. To drain the coolant there is a tap that you unscrew on the bottom right of the radiator, just loosen this and remove the reservior cap(it will make the water drain quicker), and what i would do is if the coolant is dirty, then buy some rad clean and pour this into the reservior and then refill with clean water and run the engine at normal temp at about 2000rpm for about 10 mins then re-drain the radiator and flush the system with clean fresh water until it comes through clean. Then buy if not already have done some Anti-freeze (the total amount of coolant is approx 8.0 litres) and the anti-freeze mixture ratio is 50% Anti-freeze & 50% Water, so you would need 4 litres of Anti-freeze and 4 litres of water, then start the engine and put the heater on max heat and get it to reach temp, and unscrew the vent valve cap which is located at the back of the engine (Bulkhead) where the 2 hoses coming out of the bulkhead (heater hoses) until some coolant flows out smoothly and then tighten the cap. But keep checking the coolant tank and keep refilling until it levels out. Then hopefully job done.. Hope this helps!!!
